How to adopt a cat at The Cafe Meow?
The best way to start the adoption process for a cat you may be interested in is to book a time in the cat lounge to meet the cats. You can also try for a walk-in, but we cannot guarantee time will be available to visit the cats if you don’t have an appointment. When you arrive and check in, let our team know who you are interested in adopting. They can help you out if there are any questions during your visit. Feel free to come back over to the cafe to let our team know you have questions; they will be happy to help.
Many people visit specifically interested in a certain cat, but for the best outcome of finding a cat that really suits your family, we always suggest leaving your heart open to all the cats, as you never know who may steal it given the opportunity. If you come with a personality trait you specifically are looking for, such as a lap cat, see who pops up on your lap when you visit and consider adopting them.
We offer a truly unique experience at The Cafe where you can mingle with a bunch of cats all at once. This allows for customers to really interact and visit with various cats, who in cages at a shelter may have otherwise been overlooked. This does, however, mean that we cannot guarantee one-on-one time with any specific cat. If you are looking to adopt a specific cat and would like some more time with them, you can always visit during the week when we tend to be slower.
We do suggest that you visit a few times before adoption to see which cat is truly perfect for you. This way, you get to know more about them before adopting. Sometimes a cat may be more sleepy when you visited, but it could be a small portion of their personality. Visiting various times at different hours of the day will allow you to get a better idea of their full personality.
Once you decide on the cat you would like to adopt, we do suggest right after meeting them, to apply to adopt. Information on how to adopt a specific cat is in the cat lounge and on each cat’s biography page online. Make sure that you check the specific page of the cat you would like to adopt for application details, as we work with several rescues.
Here are some tips:
- Plan a few visits to get to know the cats. Remember a meet and greet is necessary to adopt any cat.
- Identify the personality traits you’re looking for in a cat and see which one matches. Avoid adopting based solely on looks to reduce the likelihood of returns. Our nontraditional experience allows you to meet the cats without committing to a specific one. Here, you are immersed in a space that the cats call home, allowing you to truly witness their personalities. Utilize this to make the best decision for your family and home situation.
- Ask our team questions. Although our team may not always be in the lounge; feel free to pop out of the lounge and ask if a team member can assist you with a few questions.
Please note: We cannot guarantee any cat will be active, on-site, or still available for adoption when you arrive. To avoid frustration, we suggest calling ahead to ask about a specific cat if you have your heart set ahead of time. That being said, we do not always have the current status of a cat’s availability; we only find out once a cat is adopted or the rescue lets us know ahead of time that a cat has an application processing.
